Animal Movie
In 2023, the Indian Hindi-language action drama film “Animal” was directed and edited by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who co-wrote the screenplay with Pranay Reddy Vanga and Saurabh Gupta. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Krishan Kumar, and Murad Khetani under T-Series Films, Bhadrakali Pictures, and Cine1 Studios, the movie featured a star-studded cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Suresh Oberoi, and Tripti Dimri. The storyline follows Ranvijay “Vijay” Singh’s quest for revenge after discovering an assassination attempt on his father.
The film’s announcement came in January 2021, revealing the title. Principal photography occurred from April 2022 to April 2023, with music composed by JAM8, Vishal Mishra, Jaani, Manan Bhardwaj, Shreyas Puranik, Ashim Kemson, and Harshwardhan Rameshwar. Cinematography was handled by Amit Roy, with Sandeep Reddy Vanga also in charge of editing. With a runtime of 201 minutes, “Animal” stood as one of the longest Indian films.
Initially scheduled for an 11 August 2023 release, the film was postponed due to post-production work and eventually hit theaters on 1 December 2023 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages, both in standard and IMAX formats. Critical reception was polarized, with acclaim for storytelling, direction, soundtrack, score, action sequences, and Kapoor’s performance, but criticism for perceived misogyny.
“Animal” shattered numerous box office records for a Hindi film, securing the highest non-holiday opening, biggest single days, highest opening weekend, and highest opening week. iGlobally, it set records, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film in Australia and Canada. The film’s worldwide gross was ₹888.17 crore (US$110 million), making it the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, the fifth-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, ninth highest-grossing Indian film of all time, and the highest-grossing A-rated Indian film. Additionally, it marked Kapoor’s highest-grossing film, surpassing the lifetime worldwide collection of “Sanju” (2018).
